World Karate Kobudo Jiujitsu Organization (WKKJO) Belt System
The following tables and charts outline the time and age requirements for rank in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/ Jiujitsu, as well as, Karate & Kobudo with the WKKJO founded by Simon Sherbourne (M.Ed.) in 2012. Please email Soke S. Sherbourne at wkkjo.budo@gmail.com if you wish to get certified with the WKKJO.
Note that Sherbourne’s Jiujitsu curriculum integrates years of wrestling and his various training with other high profile Jiujitsu Professors. His gym was an affiliate dojo under Royce Gracie from 2004 to 2017, followed by training with Roy Harris from 2017 to 2020. He also attended extensive Self Defence training with the Valente Brothers in 2017, and then under Marco Costa from 2021 - 2024.
Sherbourne was also a senior student of the late Hanshi Seikichi Odo (1926 - 2002) and achieved the rank of 7th Dan in Karate and Kobudo in the RHKKF in 2005.
Karate and Kobudo Belt Promotion Time Requirements (WKKJO

Karate and Kobudo Titles with rank…
Senpai is a Senior Student;
Yudansha are all those who have achieved black belt ranks;
Sensei is a teacher with a 4th Dan or higher (traditionally, only the head instructor at the Dojo is called Sensei);
Renshi is 4th - 6th Dan;
Kyoshi is 7th - 8th Dan;
Hanshi is 9th - 10th Dan.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Belt Graduation Time Requirements (WKKJO)
White Belt: No minimum or maximum time (usually 2-4 years depending on many variables).
Blue Belt: minimum of 2 years (must be at least 16 years of age to receive a Blue Belt).
Purple Belt: minimum of 2 years.
Brown Belt: minimum of 2 years.
The following are the requirements for Black Belt for Jiu-Jitsu with the WKKJO
Black Belts must train for a minimum of 7 years, and be at least 20 years of age or older.
The title of Professor is achieved after a minimum of one year as a Probationary Black Belt Instructor. 1st Dan and successive Dan ranks are granted with a minimum of 3 years at the previous rank.
The Black Belt should have a red rank bar of approximately 10 cm in length, positioned approximately 3 cm from one end of the belt. The red rank bar will, in time, be delineated by two white bars and will receive markings from one (1st Dan) to nine (9th Dan) for Dan ranks.
