The Kobudo taught at Sherbourne Martial Arts Academy in London is directly from Okinawa, Japan in its original format as was taught by Master Seikichi Odo to Senior Student Kyoshi Simon Sherbourne.  The Knowledge passed on to Sherbourne occurred from 1987 to 2002 when Odo Sensei passed just 10 days after Sheroburne visited Okinawa to train with Odo Sensei for what ended up being their last training session together.

The Self-Defense program at SMAA adopts a comprehensive approach to the concept of self-protection.  Our program is “reality-driven” and built upon a foundation in research-based occurrences and responses that range from conversational diversion, progressing to physical avoidance,  counters, and restraint techniques for unarmed and armed situations (club, knife, and firearms). At Sherbourne Martial Arts Academy we teach methods that are suitable to Women's Self-Defense, Men's Self-Defense and Children's Self-Defense.

Modern Awareness Training has been developed for the purposes of improved applications with regard to Self-Defense and Longevity

The three stages of Awareness Training are to be taught by a Budo Ways INC. certified Instructor. Awareness & Understanding of Self, Awareness & Understanding of Others, and Awareness of Your Environment. Our certified instructors will expertly instruct any Man, Women or Child in all 3 awareness stages to hone your instincts and help you to control your environment.

SMAA has just installed a new hygienic continuous floor mat and red wall mat for your training safety.  Workout on these surfaces and feel the difference (Nov. 2016).
